La rider donostiarra Irati Idiakez volvió a subirse al podio por segunda vez en el Mundial de snowboard de Lillehammer (Noruega) al conquistar este viernes una nueva medalla de plata en la modalidad de boardercross, que se une a la lograda hace una semana en banked eslalon.
La deportista de Getaria, que compite sin el brazo derecho debido a un accidente sufrido en un autobús en diciembre de 2017, volvió a proclamarse subcampeona del mundo por detrás de la polaca Monika Aleksandra Kotzian, que se colgó la medalla de oro y mantiene su reinado en la categoría SB-UL.
«Termino con una sensación agridulce. Contenta por el trabajo hecho pero no he podido conseguir el tan ansiado oro. A la próxima competición iré con más fuerza, aprendiendo siempre y con ganas», confesó Irati, que vio frenada su progresión en la competición de este viernes por una caída.
Irati Idiakez se llevó el Globo de Cristal a la mejor deportista de su categoría la pasada campaña y en la presente sigue sin bajarse del podio. En la Copa del Mundo de Hochfügen (Austria) se proclamó campeona mientras que en las pruebas de Laandgraf (Países Bajos) y Pyha (Finlandia) se colgó sendas medallas de plata.
El otro representante español en competición, el asturiano Víctor González, que padece una invasión medular del treinta por ciento, accedió a la fase final de boarder cross con el undécimo mejor tiempo de la ronda de clasificación.
En cuartos de final le tocó enfrentarse con el japonés Junta Kosuda y el estadounidense Mike Schultz, finalizando segundo por detrás de Schultz, al que volvería a encontrarse en las semifinales, en las que no le pudo superar ni a él ni a su compatriota Thomas Wilson y al neerlandés Chris Vos.
«Estoy muy contento con esta prueba. A pesar de haber hecho una mala clasificación me aproveché de la disputa de los riders que iban delante de mi y al final he acabado octavo. Es importante ir a los Juegos con esta confianza y saber que puedo estar dentro de los diplomas», dijo Víctor, al término de la prueba.
El oro se lo llevó el canadiense Tyler Turner, la plata Schultz y el bronce el estadounidense Tyler Burdick.
En banked eslalon, Víctor González, que estará en los Juegos Paralímpicos de Pekín, no pasó a la final de su clase (SB-LL1) al finalizar la fase de clasificación en decimocuarta posición.
