Pol Makuri Redolad, el único esquiador de fondo que participa en los Juegos Paralímpicos de Pekín y perteneciente a la Federación Española de Deportes de Personas con Parálisis Cerebral y Daño Cerebral Adquirido (FEDPC), se presenta como candidato a representante de los deportistas en el Consejo de Deportistas del Comité Paralímpico Internacional (IPC).
El Comité Paralímpico Español apoya la candidatura de Pol Makuri, que se encuentra actualmente en la Villa Paralímpica de Zhangjiaku, en donde los deportistas de los distintos países votarán para decidir la composición del Consejo de Deportistas.
El esquiador catalán anunció su candidatura a través de un vídeo creado por él mismo, en el que presenta sus retos, en línea con lograr una sociedad más diversa e inclusiva a través del deporte.
Los retos que plantea y con los que el Comité Paralímpico Español está totalmente alineado son lograr la inclusión del deporte de personas con discapacidad en la Federación Internacional de Esquí (FIS), trabajar los factores de corrección para que sean más igualitarios y justos, asegurando que todos los deportistas, sea cual sea su discapacidad, puedan competir en igualdad de condiciones, y realzar la voz y la presencia de los deportistas con discapacidad para lograr el espacio y la relevancia que merecen.
El Consejo de Deportistas del IPC es el órgano de enlace entre los deportistas y la máxima entidad mundial del deporte de personas con discapacidad. Está formado por hasta 13 miembros. Seis se eligen durante los Juegos Paralímpicos de verano y tres en los de invierno, de forma que ocupan el cargo durante cuatro años.
Además, el Consejo puede designar hasta tres miembros adicionales por periodos de dos años con el objetivo de garantizar que haya equilibrio entre géneros, regiones, deportes y grupos de discapacidad. También forma parte un representante de la Comisión de Deportistas del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI).
La misión principal de este Consejo es ser la voz de todos los deportistas internacionales actuales, futuros y retirados dentro del Movimiento Paralímpico, en la dirección estratégica del IPC y ayudar a los deportistas tanto dentro como fuera del campo de juego para garantizar que todos cuenten con el apoyo y los recursos necesarios para desarrollar sus carreras.
