Irati Idiakez, subcampeona mundial de snowboard paralímpico, dio una charla en la sede de Universal Pay, en Madrid, coincidiendo con el Día Internacional de la Mujer, y habló de su experiencia vital tras sufrir un accidente que le cambió la vida.
La vida de Irati Idiakez (Getaria, Guipúzcoa; 1996) sufrió un cambio radical el 10 de diciembre de 2017. Estando en Chile estudiando el último semestre de la carrera de Trabajo Social sufrió un accidente. El conductor del autobús que cubría la ruta entre Santiago y Viña del Mar perdió el control y volcó.
Irati, que estaba con una amiga que también sufrió daños en una pierna, tuvo que someterse a varias operaciones que terminaron con la amputación del brazo derecho.
Haciendo rehabilitación, el médico la dijo que sería importante que estuviera fuerte por temas de compensación e hiciera deporte, algo a lo que no estaba acostumbrada ya que solo realizaba de vez en cuando bicicleta estática y algunos ejercicios de mantenimiento.
Fue entonces cuando la llamaron de la Federación Vasca de Deporte Adaptado y dio comienzo a una historia deportiva que la llevó a debutar internacionalmente a finales de 2019. Desde entonces acumula éxitos sobre la tabla de snow, como los cosechados este 2022 con el subcampeonato del mundo en Lillehammer (Noruega).
«Cuando tuve el accidente, y tras perder el brazo, tuve que trabajar con una psicóloga para aceptarme, quererme a mí misma y gestionar los momentos del día a día, porque muchas veces las guerras que tenemos son contra nosotras mismas«, dijo Irati, ante los empleados de Universal Pay.
«Normalizar la discapacidad ayudaría a visibilizar a las personas y, en este caso, a las que hacen deporte. La mayor parte de lo que sale en los medios son hombres y fútbol pero también estamos las mujeres que hacen deporte. Yo soy mujer y deportista y me preparo para grandes competiciones como unos Juegos«, confesó.
«Hay mucho camino por hacer. Es necesario contemplar la diversidad en cualquier ámbito, también en una empresa, porque saber gestionarla genera mucha riqueza personal», apuntó Idiakez, que destacó que en «el deporte tienes estar muy preparado psicológicamente para todo».
«La parte psicológica es muy importante, igual que la deportiva. Yo he tenido que frente a algunas barreras pero he tenido la suerte de que siempre se han volcado en mi. Eso me ayuda mucho para echar la vista atrás, recordarme las cosas y ver que no hay que quejarse por tontería. Quiero disfrutar de la vida y ser feliz porque nunca sabes lo que puede pasar», concluyó Irati Idiakez.
Andrés Gómez Sirat, director del Centro de Deportes de Invierno Adaptados (CDIA), en el que entrena Irati Idiakez y el resto del equipo nacional en Baqueira Beret, destacó la «fuerza de voluntad de los deportistas con discapacidad».
«El deporte nos ayuda a gestionar todas las barreras. Nosotros siempre hemos apostado por las mujeres porque tienen potencial y a día de hoy son las que están consiguiendo los mejores resultados, a diferencia del snowboard convencional. Hacemos competiciones inclusivas porque creemos que hay que romper las barreras que están en la cabeza de las personas», finalizó.
